FOREWORD
by Professor Tom Kirkwood
Humans are living longer and longer every year.We should unreservedly celebrate these remarkable gains in longevity, for they have given us so much more of that most precious commodity:time. But we need also to face up to the new challenges that come from our longer lives.
book story Dr.miriam stoppard
Each and every one of us has a responsibility to do what we can to enhance the quality of our extra years of life,so that we can enjoy them as fully as possible.

In this era of research on the human genome,it is reassuring to know that the latest scientific studies tell us that there is no gene for ageing. To be sure, genes can influence how we will age,and some of us may be luckier in our genetic endowment than others. The genes that affect ageing are genes for survival-for bodily maintenance and repair-and there is much that we can do to help these genes in their essential work.
book story Dr.miriam stoppard
But your genetic inheritance is likely to play only a modest part in how you will age. The lifestyle you choose, the foods you eat and you eat and your attitude of mind towards growing older can have at least as great an effect as your genes.

This is why the positive message in this book,in which Miriam Stoppard gives us an invigorating
blend of tips and advice,is so important for healthy ageing.Don't pretend it won't happen to you. Denying age is a big mistake. But Defying Age is an appetizing recipe for living our longer lives to the full.
